Intellectual property in the UAE is governed by federal laws, including the Trademarks Law (Federal Law No. 36 of 2021), the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Law (Federal Law No. 38 of 2021) and the Industrial Property Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2021). Registration with the relevant ministry is central to protecting trademarks.
These guides explain how IP rights arise, how disputes tend to develop and what IP agreements should say.

Is a business name the same as a trademark?
No. A trade name registered for licensing purposes does not by itself give trademark protection, which generally depends on trademark registration and use.
